SUMMARY: Dramatizes the tragic career of Ira Hamilton Hayes, a Pima Indian youth who lived on a reservation and was thrust into national fame as one of the six Marines who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima during World War II. Traces his life from his enlistment in the Marines in 1944 to his death in 1955 of alcoholism and exposure.
